Local Cheerleader Makes The Team

Meet this week's Whiz Kid!

Recent Lake Zurich High School graduate Nina Naples has an exciting freshman year to look forward to at Central Michigan University this fall. Not only will she be busy taking classes while pursuing her major in athletic training/physical therapy, but she also plans to spend many exhausting hours in the cheerleading gym.

After three days of very competitive tryouts consisting of tumbling, sideline cheers, interviews, stunting, fight-songs and conditioning trials, our hometown girl, Nina, fought her way through with a smile on her face and earned herself a spot on the Central Michigan All Girl Cheer Team. She will be joining a very talented group of young women cheering on their teams and representing the university in nationwide competitions.

While in Lake Zurich, Nina was an active member of Titans All Star Cheer and was a captain for the past two years. While on the Titans squad, Nina's teams won many local competitions and national titles. Nina loved her time cheering so much that she extended it into her work and found a position coaching in Barrington for 6- to 9-year-olds.

Nina is not only an outstanding athlete (cheerleading is a sport in Illinois), but also an outstanding scholar. While at LZHS, she maintained a perfect 4.0 during her junior and senior year, and high honors in previous years. She also participated in the peer-mentoring program and was the cheerful voice on the line at Rosati's Pizza.

Nina looks forward to Aug. 3, when she will be able to start practice with her team and get ready to cheer on the purple and gold. Congratulations to Nina Naples on being this week's Whiz Kid. Cheers!
