Benefit to Help 23-Year-Old Cancer Patient and His Family

Event is May 11 at American Legion Post 964, Lake Zurich.

  On Saturday, May 11, family, friends and members of the community will come together to celebrate the life of Ryland Kollar, a 23-year-old Lake Zurich native who has been battling leukemia for the last 11 years. The benefit, which will be held at American Legion Post 964, 51 Lions Drive, Lake Zurich, will raise money to help Ryland’s family defray the costs of his care.  Diagnosed at age 12 with T Cell ALL, the rarest form of leukemia, Ryland has endured years of treatments and surgeries, including two bone marrow transplants, orthopedic procedures, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. He has permanent lung damage, deterioration of his joints, and a tumor in his eye that affects his vision.  Despite this, his mother, Laura Santucci, …

Lake Zurich Young Man Fights Rare Form of Leukemia

Cancelled: Benefit for Ryland Kollar will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at Lake Zurich American Legion.

Update, Dec. 7 Katherine Hetlet announced that the Ryland Kollar benefit has been cancelled due to personal circumstances.  Dec. 5 Lake Zurich resident Ryland Kollar, 23, has been through more pain in his life than anyone should have to endure, said family friend Katherine Hetlet. “He’s a really outgoing kid and he always has a smile on his face no matter what kind of pain he’s in and lately he’s in a ridiculous amount of pain. Yet he’s always there to brighten someone else’s pain,” she said. Ryland has been fighting a rare form of leukemia, T-Cell ALL, since he was 12 years old. He is now in his fifth relapse and is undergoing treatment. Ryland is still covered under his parent’s medical insurance, although the insurance does not cover …
