Forest Lake 4th of July 5K to Benefit Wounded Warrior Project
An awards ceremony and celebration will follow the race.
Megan McDowell and her Forest Lake neighbors are planning a community race on Independence Day. “A few neighbors and I are putting it together because we wanted to do something nice for the community,” McDowell said. McDowell became interested in the Wounded Warrior project after her husband, Steve, served two tours in Iraq. She was recently named a winner in the General Motors’ Our Town, Our Heroes program for her support of the military. The fundraiser has already received a $2,000 donation from the Volkswagen Group of America. The inaugural Forest Lake 5K Run/1K family walk to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project will take place on July 4, 8 a.m., at the community center, 24127 N. Forest Drive.
