The Ela Tax Reform Party today announced their support for the township tax abatement passed by Naperville Township. Based on an ordinance passed last week, Naperville Township will abate $500,000 in excess property taxes collected. Members of the Ela Tax Reform Party slate pledge to reduce the township’s excess reserve fund and abate up to $2 million in property taxes. “If there is no plan or need for the funds, an abatement is meaningful to all residents and the fiscally responsible thing to do”, says Supervisor candidate, Barbara Evans. Evans said based on information received from Ela Township, there should be over $5 million in surplus accumulated at the end of this fiscal year which is well over a year’s worth of expenses. Each…

Village trustees, school board trustees and library board trustees will be on the April ballot.
Potential candidates have already begun circulating petitions for the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election. Interested candidates can still pick up election packets, which must be filed between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24. On the Lake Zurich village board, the village president, four trustees and the village clerk will be up for election. Seven people have picked up election packets for village seats, according to Deputy Village Clerk Susan Ragsdale. They include sitting trustees Rich Sustich and Tom Poynton. Others who have picked up packets are:Geoffrey Petzel, Tom Matijevic, Hye Matijevic, Scot Unger and Mark Loewes. Village Clerk Kathleen Johnson issued a public notice that six positions are available in the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election: Petitions for filing of a new political party or independent candidate must be picked up at the local unit of government, Village Hall, 70 E. Main St. Petition packets are available as of Sept. 18, 2012, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Village Clerk’s office. Petitions may be circulated starting Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. Petitions may not be circulated before Sept. 25. Petitions must be filed at Lake Zurich Village Hall. The filing period runs from Monday, Dec. 17 through Dec. 21 and Monday, Dec. 24. Contact Village Clerk Kathleen Johnson with any questions at 847-438-2535.
