Trader Joe's, Whole Foods to Ban Genetically Modified Fish

The grocers won't sell genetically engineered salmon if approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Reuters reports.

  You won’t find genetically modified fish on Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods shelves, Reuters reports. The grocers signed an agreement with others across the country as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration nears closer to approving genetically engineered salmon. The fish would be the first genetically modified animal to be in America’s food supply, the news source reports. The nearest Trader Joe’s is located at 735 W. Route 22 in Lake Zurich, and Whole Foods newest location is at 20281 N Rand Road in Kildeer.

Krisers, all-natural pet store, is opening on Wednesday, March 6.

  Natural foods shoppers may soon be flocking to Kildeer, not only for the human members of their family, but for their pets as well. Krisers, an all-natural pet food retailer, will open next door to Whole Foods Kildeer. Both stores will open to the public on Wednesday, March 6, and it is no coincidence. “It’s perfect really. We’re excited because there’s a lot of crossover audience seeking a natural solution. Kriser’s offers the best all-natural pet food,” said Danielle Mozeleski, of Formula PR, Inc. Lake Zurich Area is Magnet for Grocery Stores

Area residents have plenty of choices when shopping for groceries and more to come.

  The Lake Zurich area, particularly the Rte. 12 corridor seems to be somewhat of a mecca for grocery stores. Between Lake Zurich and Kildeer, the area currently has five stand-alone grocers—Fresh Market, Jewel-Osco, Dominick’s Finer Foods, Aldi's, and Trader Joes. There are two more on the way—Whole Foods and Mariano’s Fresh Market—as well as talk of a third--Woodmans.  That’s not even counting retailers that offer large grocery sections, like Walmart, Target and Costco. I think Fresh Market will be the first casualty once Whole Foods relocates and the Mariano's opens. All three going after the same type of shopper demographic - something has to give.   more ›
