Extraordinary bravery is ordinary for teachers.
Like the rest of the nation, I was shocked and saddened by the horrific events in Newtown that took the lives of 20 innocent children. What did not surprise me were the actions of the teachers and school personnel who died trying to protect them. We have all heard the stories by now — the principal and school psychologist running into gunfire in an effort to disarm the lunatic who invaded their school, the teachers who died protecting their students, and the students who did not die because of the quick thinking and bravery of their teachers. Of all the adjective others would use to describe me, brave is not on the list. However, as a teacher, I am certain I would have done the same as the teachers did in Newtown. I’m not saying this …

Low enrollment and performance issues are the resaons for the release of district employees.
The release of 22 Community Unit School District 95 staff members from their jobs was approved by the school board on Thursday night. “We are not releasing staff due to economic reasons, it’s due to declining enrollment or performance issues,” said Kathy Brown, board president. Jessica Boyle comes to Middle School South with 10 years experience as a teacher.
Jessica Boyle is the new part-time gifted science teacher at Middle School South. Her second grade teacher Mary Anne Travnik from St. Catherine's in Glenview inspired her to become a teacher. "I love teaching Science because it's in the world around you, and that makes it interactive and applicable for students," said Boyle. This is Boyle's first year returning to work as a teacher after a five-year hiatus of staying home to care for her children. "I fell right back into teaching," she said. Prior to her hiatus, she worked as a full time middle school teacher for 10 years. Science has always been her core area of teaching.
