Prudential Visions Agents Give Back at Emmaus House Dinner

Volunteers help those struggling with poverty.

  Once again the team at Prudential Visions Realty served dinner at the Emmaus House of Hospitality for those in need in the Cuba Township area, April 28.  This event takes place every Sunday night in the basement of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church as those who wish to share a meal and friendship join with a group of volunteers. Attendees can take home food at the end of the meal as well.  “This is a great opportunity for us to focus on a community need,” said Jen Ortman, broker/owner of Prudential Visions. “We live and work in the Lake Zurich area so we know there are people who are struggling with poverty. St. Francis de Sales School Holds Open House Events

Tour Lake Zurich Catholic school on April 10 and April 24.

  Father David F. Ryan, Pastor, Mr. Roy Rash, Principal, and Sister Michael Marie, Assistant Principal, invite all families to attend two Open House events at St. Francis de Sales Parish School, 11 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich. The Open Houses will be held on Wednesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prospective families may attend the 8:30 a.m. weekly school Mass and tour the school following the religious service. Tours will be available throughout the day beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Parents and children can expect to meet with faculty, students and other parents, take a school tour and enjoy fellowship and refreshments during the Open House events. St. Francis De Sales Students Donate Food Through Peapod

The kids gave to St. Vincent de Paul's food pantry through Peapod's "Kids Give Back" program.

  St. Francis De Sales School students took to the Internet to donate food to ministry center’s food pantry, the Lake Zurich Courier reports. Each fourth grade classroom was given $100 to order food from Peapod’s website through the  “Kids Give Back” program. The kids chose a variety of healthy options for the pantry including peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables and cereal, the newspaper reports.

Lake Zurich District 95 Hosts Preschool Screenings

School is scheduling appointments for March 19-20 screenings.

  Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 will be offering a preschool screening for 3 and 4 year-old children for whom there may be concerns in the area of gross or fine motor skills, speech-language or conceptual development. In addition, a vision and hearing screening will be offered. Screenings will be held Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Francis de Sales Ministry Center, 135 S. Buesching Rd, Lake Zurich. St. Francis de Sales Holds Two Open House Events

The open houses will be held on Jan. 20 and Jan. 28 at St. Francis de Sales in Lake Zurich, to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.

St. Francis de Sales Parish School, 11 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, invites all families to attend our two Open House & Information Sessions in January. The first Open House & Information Session will take place on Sunday, Jan. 20 in the New Gym Lobby from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This session is specifically for families with children who will be entering preschool or kindergarten. A second Open House and Information Session, for all grade levels, will take place on Monday, January 28 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. At this time, new families may visit classrooms and registration for the 2013-14 school year will officially begin. St. Francis Girls Cross Country Win First Ever Sectional

Team will now compete for the state championship.

The St. Francis de Sales Girls Varsity Cross Country team made history for the Lake Zurich Catholic school. The team won its first ever sectional championship for the school. "It's really cool. It's a great group of girls," said Coach Bill Schaefer. "They accomplished what nobody has ever done before." "Lauren Nelson finished second at the sectional; this is the first time she was second all year. In her five previous races, she was first in all five," Schaefer said. Molly (Machala) came in third, which is the best she has finished all season, he added. Schaeffer said it's a young team with three eighth graders and five seventh graders. St. Francis Students to Present Stations of the Cross

Community is welcome to attend at 7 p.m. April 3.

St. Francis de Sales fifth-grader Henry Langbo looked up toward the heavens and said the last words that Jesus uttered on the cross: "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." Langbo, portraying Jesus, then was removed from the cross and laid on the floor, his head cradled in the lap of his mother Mary, portrayed by Anna Maria Schelonka. Soon, a chorus of fifth-graders sang "Were you there when they laid him in the tomb" as a white sheet was placed over Langbo's body, representing Jesus' burial in the tomb. St. Francis de Sales fifth-graders will present a live Stations of the Cross during Holy Week. "It's customary for Catholics to pray this during the Lenten season," said teacher Michelle Bodo. St. Francis Students Deliver Food to Local Pantry

Fourth-graders worked with Peapod to donate food to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Fifty-eight St. Francis de Sales fourth-graders helped deliver $400 worth of donated food from Peapod to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Thursday. The project was a joint venture between the school and Peapod, which offers the donations through its "Kids Give Back" program. Sara Brown, marketing associate with the Lake Zurich-based business, said a Peapod representative visited the school to talk to students about making smart food choices. St. Francis students then worked in small groups to each choose $40 worth of food from the Peapod site, totaling $400. Employment Ministry Aims To Help Individuals Looking For Work

The St. Francis de Sales Employment Ministry is offering four free workshops through the end of the year to anyone looking for a job.

Since 2002, the St. Francis de Sales Employment Ministry at 135 S. Buesching Road has provided more than 1,300 job seekers with a variety of tools to find employment.   The first of four two-day workshops offered by the ministry through the end of the year will be held tomorrow, March 25, and again March 27.  Pre-registration and attendance at both sessions is required. The sessions are free and open to all job-seekers. Among the job search tips offered are one-on-one resume assistance, interviewing skills and how to network to get valuable job referrals. “We teach people to fish instead of giving them fish.
