Obituary: Albert John Fritz, Inventor of Schwinn Stingray

Fritz passed away May 7.

  Born October 8, 1924, Albert John Fritz passed away May 7, 2013 in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family. Albert graduated from eighth grade and went to stenography school, hoping to become a court reporter. During World War II, he served on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Philippines, where he was wounded. After the war, he signed on at Schwinn, the booming bicycle company whose factories and offices dominated his old neighborhood. He stayed for 40 years, rising from the factory floor to the top ranks of management. When, early in his career, Fritz heard that Frank W. We didn't have everything growing up but my parents made sure that we all rode Schwinn bikes. The Stingray and Fairlady were the hottest bikes on the block in the early 70's. :) Just got rid of it a few years ago.   more ›

Obituary: Charles “Chuck” W. Matheson II, 70

Resident of Lake Zurich since 1977.

Visitation for Chuck W. Matheson will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  Interment will be private.  Chuck was born on Feb. 1, 1943 in Miami, FL and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI the son of the late William and Dorothy (nee Hull) Matheson and passed away on Thursday, April 4.  Chuck attended Michigan State University and had also played on the Michigan State Football Team.  Chuck’s devotion and loyalty to Michigan State was as strong today as it was when he attended there. Influential Film Critic, Roger Ebert, Dies

After a long battle with cancer, Ebert died Thursday, according to media reports.

  Roger Ebert, the popular film critic who could weigh  a movie's fate with a thumbs up or thumbs down, has died at age 70, according to media reports.  The Chicago Sun-Times, the publication where Ebert reviewed movies for 46 years, reports Ebert died Thursday in Chicago following a long battle with cancer. Referring to Ebert as the nation's most influential and prominent film critic, the Sun-Times writes of Ebert's decades with the newspaper and also about the 31 years he spent reviewing movies on T.V. In a Sun-Times blog post on Tuesday, Ebert wrote he would be taking a "leave of presence" to deal with his health issues.  The "painful fracture" that made it difficult for me to walk has recently been revealed to be a cancer," Ebert wrote…

Former Football Player Paralyzed in 1999 Dies

Robert Komosa, 30, died at his home in Barrington Hills over the weekend.

  A former Rolling Meadows High School football player who was paralyzed during a practice in 1999 has died at the age of 30, according to a Chicago Tribune article.  Robert Komosa died Saturday evening at his home in Barrington Hills, according to the article. As a junior at Rolling Meadows High School, Komosa suffered serious head injuries during a football practice, was paralyzed from the neck down and needed to use "a ventilator to help him breathe" following the injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.    .

  Longtime resident of Fox Lake, formerly of Lake Zurich, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 8, 2013, after a courageous 18 year battle with cancer. Daniel F. Gudgeon, 76, of Gurnee died Sunday Jan. 27 in Libertyville. He was born March 11, 1936 in Chicago and had been a Lake County resident for the past 70 years. Mr. Gudgeon was a career salesman and had served six years in the Army Reserves. Daniel attended the University of Illinois on a Chick Evans Golf Scholarship. He was past president of the Lake County Board of Realtors, past president of MAP multiple listing services, past president and was a charter member of the Lake Zurich JC's and was the former owner of the D.F.
