Village trustees, school board trustees and library board trustees will be on the April ballot.
Potential candidates have already begun circulating petitions for the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election. Interested candidates can still pick up election packets, which must be filed between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24. On the Lake Zurich village board, the village president, four trustees and the village clerk will be up for election. Seven people have picked up election packets for village seats, according to Deputy Village Clerk Susan Ragsdale. They include sitting trustees Rich Sustich and Tom Poynton. Others who have picked up packets are:Geoffrey Petzel, Tom Matijevic, Hye Matijevic, Scot Unger and Mark Loewes. New Age Transportation plans to send a truckload of goods to New Jersey on Wednesday.
A Lake Zurich company, New Age Transportation, is donating transportation and a facility for organizing a major food and goods drive for victims of hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Mayor Suzanne Branding and the village are helping to publicize the drive in an effort to fill a truckload of goods by Wednesday. “Last night the Mayor of Hoboken, NJ was on CNN begging for water and food to be sent to the high school where so many people are staying. Hard to imagine this is happening 1,200 miles from here. Village Clerk Kathleen Johnson issued a public notice that six positions are available in the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election: Petitions for filing of a new political party or independent candidate must be picked up at the local unit of government, Village Hall, 70 E. Main St. Petition packets are available as of Sept. 18, 2012, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Village Clerk’s office. Petitions may be circulated starting Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. Petitions may not be circulated before Sept. 25. Petitions must be filed at Lake Zurich Village Hall. The filing period runs from Monday, Dec. 17 through Dec. 21 and Monday, Dec. 24. Contact Village Clerk Kathleen Johnson with any questions at 847-438-2535.

The Illinois Gaming Board recently gave the green light for video gaming, along with rules to monitor its use; the devices have been prohibited throughout the state since November 2009.
The village board, along with newly sworn in Village Administrator Jason Slowinski, heard a second appeal at the May 7 board meeting to consider allowing video gaming at select establishments in Lake Zurich. Those locations, per new rules created by the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB), would include businesses that hold valid liquor licenses where alcohol is poured and consumed, and at fraternal and veterans organizations such as the Lions Club and the American Legion. Video gaming machines are lottery-type terminals, such as poker games. Truck stops also are eligible for video gaming devices, according to IGB code, though none exist in Lake Zurich. What's coming up this week?
Here is a look at some events coming up this week in Lake Zurich: Northwest Family Church will hold a communitywide Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7. The event will be held in Lions Park and will feature more than 5,000 eggs filled with candy and prizes. The event will include inflatables, face painting, games, and free hot dogs and chips, according to the church's website. The Easter egg hunt will start at noon.
