Lake Zurich D95 Announces Filing Period for School Board Candidates

Filing begins Dec. 17.

  Nominating petition forms for the April 9, 2013 school board election in Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 are now available. Forms may be picked up in the office of the board secretary at 400 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, on any business day between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A school board candidate’s petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 and no later than 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26. Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary’s office. Four seats on the seven-member board of education will be filled at the April 9th election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April, 2017. To …

School Search Website Gives Bright A+ Award to Lake Zurich Schools

Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 one of six districts in Lake County to be recognized.

  Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 is one of 59 Illinois school districts to receive the 2012 School Search Bright A+ Award. This award is based on those school districts with the highest academic performance in Illinois. According to the SchoolSearch press release: SchoolSearch honors 59 Illinois school districts (out of 868 school districts) with the SchoolSearchTM Bright A+ Award for academic excellence. Seth Paine Kids Take Firefighter Challenge

Lake Zurich students from Seth Paine and Isaac Fox schools raised more than $3,000 for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance burn camp, I Am Me, and got treated to games and ice cream.

Lake Zurich students learned a little about putting out fires and rescue this past week as firefighters from the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department visited and put on a fireighter challenge. The kids got to slide down a fire pole, drag a dummy and fire hose and spray water at an imaginary fire. Afterwards, they were treated with ice cream from Culvers.  Fire Chief David Wheelock said Seth Paine and Isaac Fox students raise money annually for the I Am Me burn camp, a program of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA). This year the students raised about $3,200.  Burn Camp allows burn survivors to share their common experiences while being able to play and not feel self conscious about their scars. New District 95 Board Member Selected

New board member will officially be sworn in Thursday night.

During a special meeting last Thursday night, Jan. 5, the Community Unit School District 95 Board of Education selected Kildeer resident Lisa Warren to fill the remainder of the term of Board Member John Kropf, who stepped down due to his relocation outside of the school district’s boundaries. Warren will be sworn in at the board’s Jan. 12 Committee of the Whole meeting, and will serve at least until the seat comes up for election in April 2013. The board selected Warren after interviewing all community members who had applied for this position.
