Thirteen Lake Zurich Middle School North students advance in reading and writing competition.
Thirteen Lake Zurich Middle School North students were chosen as Illinois Semi-Finalists in the “Letters about Literature Competition.” Students were asked to write letters to authors about how their works changed and shaped the students’ views of themselves and the world. They reflected on their reading experience and thought about what they learned both personally and globally through the words of the author. This competition is a national reading and writing competition. These students stood out from among the 6,100 letters received in the State of Illinois alone. Christopher Martelli to lead school.
The board of education for Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 approved the hiring of Christopher Martelli as the new principal for May Whitney Elementary School, at its April 25 meeting. Martelli is currently assistant principal at the John Conyers Learning Academy, a therapeutic day school setting. Prior to that, Martelli served as principal at Albert Einstein Elementary School in Hanover Park; as principal at Frederick Nerge Elementary School in Roselle, and as principal at Hunting Ridge Elementary School in Palatine. Martelli holds a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa, a master of science degree in education from Loyola University, and is currently working on his doctor of education …

Last day to file petitions for the Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 Board of Education was Dec. 26.
Six candidates filed for seats on the Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 board, according to Jean Malek, communications director for the district. There are four expired seats on the seven-member board. Candidates running include incumbents Scott McConnell of Lake Zurich, Lisa Warren of Kildeer, and Kathy Brown of Hawthorn Woods. Newcomers running are Eileen Maloney of Lake Zurich, Russell Cerqua of Kildeer and John Shaw of Lake Zurich.

Lake Zurich High School's track will be resurfaced and trouble spots throughout District 95 will be repaved or resurfaced.
The Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 Board of Education unanimously approved four summer work projects totaling $435,362 at their May 26 meeting. The four projects include: replacing the ceiling at Seth Paine Elementary; resurfacing, replacing, grading or patching pavement at various locations throughout the district; pavement maintenance oversight; and track resurfacing at Lake Zurich High School. Bids were awarded to: “I’m good with these improvements,” said John Kropf, board of education vice president. The work at Seth Paine Elementary will include removing and replacing interlocking ceiling tiles and lights in corridors 100 and 200 and rooms 110-112.
