Updated: School Bus Driver Charged with Sex Assault

A veteran bus driver for Woodland School District 50 is scheduled to appear in court June 12 on sex assault charges involving a victim under 17.

Woodland District 50 bus driver Kristin Miks, 32, of the 33000 Block of Sunset Ave., in Wildwood, was arrested May 13 on two counts of Criminal Sexual Assault and four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, reported the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The victim was under the age of 17 at the time of the offenses. The victim’s mother found messages from Miks referring to the encounters and reported it to the police, according to the sheriff's office. The Daily Herald is reporting the victim is a female. According to the Lake County News-Sun, Miks also has charges of cruelty to animals pending against her for allegedly mistreating three dogs in her care. Updated: Sheriff's Deputy Charged with Sex Crime

Deputy Eric Francke is on administrative leave without pay after being charged with solicitation of a sex act and obstructing justice.

A Lake County Sheriff's deputy has been placed on administrative leave after being charged May 10 with solicitation of a sexual act and obstructing justice, according to a press release. Deputy Eric Francke, 33, has been a deputy with the sheriff's office since Sept. 2008. He is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Mundelein Police Department on April 11 of an on-going criminal investigation involving Francke, who was initially placed on administrative leave with pay. As of Monday, Francke was not receiving pay. Francke is free after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. Click It or Ticket Stepped Up through Memorial Day

Drivers warned to buckle up or risk getting a ticket as police step up seat belt enforcement through Memorial Day.

The 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign kicked off Friday in Illinois. The purpose of the campaign is to help save lives by cracking down on those who do not buckle up through the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police (ISP) and over 500 local law enforcement agencies across the state to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws. “As we kick-off the busy summer driving season it’s important for everyone to buckle up every trip, every time, day or night – no excuses,” said Sheriff Mark C. Buffalo Grove Resident Killed in 3-Car Crash

Buffalo Grove resident Mary Kay Affrunti died in a three-vehicle crash at West Erhart and North Gilmer roads in unincorporated Mundelein Tuesday morning.

Update: Buffalo Grove resident Mary Kay Affrunti, 60, died in the crash this morning near Mundelein, the Daily Herald reports. Previously: One person was killed Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle crash in unincorporated Mundelein, reports the Lake County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, the sheriff’s office responded to an accident with injuries at West Erhart and North Gilmer roads in unincorporated Mundelein. Lake County Woman Charged with Multiple Drug Offenses

A Lake Villa woman arrested for intent to deliver heroin, among other drug charges, will appear in court Tuesday.

A Lake County Sheriff's deputy made a significant drug bust in Lake Villa, finding a woman in possession of heroin, cocaine and marijuana. Stacie Vickers, 38, of the 24000 Block of W. Forest Drive, Lake Villa, was driving southbound on Route 59 near Busse Lane on April 22 when she was stopped by a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy. The deputy smelled marijuana inside Vickers’ vehicle and conducted a search that produced 78.6 grams of marijuana, 9.4 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia and $1,062.00 in cash, according to a press release. Lake County Man Tries to Abduct Four Girls

A Lake Villa man has been charged with attempted aggravated kidnapping after police said he chased four young girls in Beach Park Wednesday.

A Lake Villa man is in jail on $1 million bond after he was arrested Wednesday by the Lake County Sheriff's Department for attempting to abduct four little girls in Beach Park. Henry Wright, 29, of the 25000 block of Arcade Dr. in Lake Villa, is charged with four counts of Attempted Aggravated Kidnapping and four counts of Child Abduction. The Lake County Sheriff's Department reported that Wright attempted to abduct the four girls, ranging in age from 4 to 8, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 39100 block of Welsh Lane in Beach Park. Sheriff's Warrant Nets Stolen Guns and Drugs

A Lake County Sheriff's Department's search of a home in Waukegan leads to an arrest of a man possessing stolen handguns, crack cocaine and heroin.

A Waukegan man faces a host of felony charges including possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance after Lake County Sheriff's investigators conducted a search warrant of his residence Wednesday. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted the search warrant as the result of an on-going investigation. Flooding Causes Road Closures in Lake County

The Lake County Sheriff's Office and Lake County PASSAGE are updating which roadways are closed throughout Lake County due to flooding.

Here is an updated list of road closures and roads with water over the pavement. The Lake County Sheriff's Office reminds resident to use extreme caution when passing through any standing water. Man Seen Covered in Blood Charged with Attempted Murder

A Milwaukee man is facing attempted murder charges after an observant driver traveling through unincorporated Newport Township Sunday reported seeing a man covered in blood.

Michael Highsmith, 24, of 2900 N. Buffman St., Milwaukee, was arrested Sunday for attempted murder, aggravated battery great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed  robbery, reported the Lake County Sheriff's Department. At about 1 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol responded to Crawford Road, south of Route 173, after a passing motorist saw Highsmith exit the area with blood on him, according to a sheriff's department press release. The passing motorist also saw the victim, a 66-year-old Wisconsin man, lying in the woods bleeding. Newport Rescue transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
