Home-Schooled Kids May be Sidelined From District 95 Sports

District 95 recently learned they were not in compliance with the Illinois High School Association's rules regarding home-schooled kids and sports teams, the Chicago Tribune reports.

  Home-schooled students living in Lake Zurich School District 95 will likely have to sit on the sidelines for school sports, the Chicago Tribune reports. The District recently learned it was breaking the Illinois High School Association’s rules regarding home-schoolers and interscholastic sports teams. IHSA requires that students, whether home-schooled or not, have to take at least five classes per year approved by the schools to play sports. Students in District 95 are currently allowed to take only two of those courses outside of the schools, like online classes, the newspaper reports. This would make home-schooled children ineligible for sports teams.

My two cents... Dist. 95 should do what they need to do to get in compliance with these requirements before the start of the 2013-14 school year. If that happens or if they're proactively taking steps to ensure athletic eligibility, there should be no consequence. Don't punish the kids for something the Administration is responsible for. Lake Zurich Boys' Basketball Team Heads to Regional Semi-Finals

The team will take on Mundelein tonight for the chance to advance to the regional finals.

  The Lake Zurich boys’ basketball team will take on Mundelein tonight in the Class 4A regional semi-finals game. The team beat out Libertyville Monday night by a score of 70-65 for the chance to advance in the tournament, the Daily Herald reports. John Repplinger was a player of note for Lake Zurich, scoring 19 points for the team, helping them secure a victory. Tonight’s game against Mundelein will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Zurich. The winner will advance to the Regional Finals.

Lake Zurich High School's Sean Lynch Qualifies for State Wrestling Finals

Lynch placed first in his weight class at a sectional tournament at Barrington High School on Feb. 9.

  Lake Zurich High School's Sean Lynch qualified for the state wrestling tournament this weekend after placing first at the Barrington sectional meet, according to IHSA results.  At 152 pounds, the Lake Zurich High School junior will now compete at the state tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

Lake Zurich High School Cheerleaders Place 8th at State Meet

The high school's co-ed team came in 8th place at the IHSA championships in Bloomington this weekend.

  Congratulations to the Lake Zurich High School cheerleading team who took eighth place at the Illinois High School Association State Finals this weekend. Buffalo Grove High School took the crown in the large school co-ed division. Barrington High School came in second, and Grant High School in Fox Lake placed third, the Daily Herald reports. Lake Zurich Wrestlers to Host Regional Meet Saturday

The team will take on Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary-Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Palatine and Stevenson.

  The Lake Zurich High School wrestling team is hosting a very important meet this weekend. The top three individuals will advance into sectionals at Barrington next weekend, and the team champion will head to the dual-team sectional, the Daily Herald reports. Lake Zurich will face off against Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary-Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Palatine and Stevenson. The Daily Herald reports Gresh Henderson is the Lake Zurich wrestler to watch in the 132-pound weight class with a record of 32-5. The state individual tournament will be held Feb. 14-16 in Champaign, while the dual-team state tournament is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Bloomington.  The Feb. 2 meet starts at 9 a.m.

Lake Zurich High School Cheerleaders Head to State Finals

The squad will compete for the state title next weekend in Bloomington.

  The Lake Zurich High School cheerleading squad has advanced to the state finals, the Daily Herald reports. The team placed in the top five in the large team class this weekend at the Illinois High School Association cheerleading sectionals. The state finals will be held Feb. 1 and 2 in Bloomington.

Update: No LZ Bears Football Tonight

Lake Forest High School teachers strike causes forfeit of football game between Lake Zurich Bears and Lake Forest Scouts.

Update, Sept. 14, 4:39 p.m.  The match between the varsity football teams at Lake Zurich and Lake Forest was being touted by sports writers as being one of the top games to watch this week. But that game won’t happen. Lake Zurich High School just announced that the game is officially cancelled. Lake Zurich will take a forfeit win, according to Jean Malek, communications director for Lake Zurich Community Unit District 95. Lake Zurich High Cheerleaders to Compete in State Finals

U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill., this weekend to host Illinois High School Association competition where Lake Zurich squad is the returning champion.

Lake Zurich High School cheerleaders are set to compete in the Illinois High School Association Competitive Cheerleading State Finals in Bloomington, Ill., at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.  The squad is the returning champion in the large team category, defeating Conant High School in the 2011 competition. Small and medium divisions began competing Friday morning, and the two-day state finals finish up Saturday after the large and coed divisions go head to head. Lake Zurich High School cheerleaders are again grouped in the large team category, and are scheduled to compete Saturday afternoon alongside 24 other teams across the state including Glenbard North, Jacobs, Naperville North, Stevenson High School, Carmel, Rolling Meadows and Hersey.     …

Sixteenth in a series. The Patch Hardwood Tour examines boys high school basketball on a weekly rotational basis, focusing on teams in a 12-town region. Its intent is to celebrate and inform about prep hoops; the best high school sport in the state. Bears Wrestlers Headed to State Finals

Zach Ullman and Alex Nigro to compete in Class 3A IHSA State finals in Champaign on Saturday.

Lake Zurich High School wrestlers Zach Ullman and Alex Nigro are headed downstate to compete in Saturday’s Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Finals at Assembly Hall in Champaign. Ullman placed second in the 145-pound weight class in the sectional tournament last weekend at Barrington High School, according to the IHSA. Nigro placed fourth in the 135-pound class in the same tournament. Ullman and Nigro are both seniors.  In the Class 3A first round individual pairings of the tournament, Ullman, with an overall record of  34 wins and 7 losses, will face Terry Ward of Hinsdale Central, who has a record of 39 wins and 3 losses, according to the IHSA.
