Sara Schrieder of Lake Zurich, graduated from Lake Forest College with a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and French . Schrieder was one of the 321 students to graduate from Lake Forest College at Ravinia Festival Park on May 12, 2012. The Honorable Richard A. Posner, Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circut, delivered an inspiring commencement address titled, "The Challenge of Complexity." Lissa Mandell shared memories of her classmates from band and theater to "Bomb Threat 2012."
Lake Zurich High School's Class of 2012 included 516 graduates. Salutatorian Lissa Mandell spoke at the graduation ceremony on May 26, with a speech punctuated with sound effects from the band, cheers from the class and a clarinet solo of the high school fight song. Lissa will attend the University of Miami in the fall to study biology and Spanish. She said she would like to get involved in researching the genetics of autism to develop tests and gene therapies to help improve the lives of those affected. Lissa was awarded the Stamps Scholarship which includes four years of full tuition, room and board, books, fees and a $12,000 stipend. Augustana's 152nd commencement took place at the i wireless Center in Moline, Ill., on Sunday, May 20. In all, 558 undergraduates earned their degrees. Students from your area earning degrees include: Sara Hewitt, from Lake Zurich, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and pre-medicine. Nicola Trumbull, from Lake Zurich, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and creative writing. Augustana President Steve Bahls told the graduating Class of 2012 he hopes they will use their liberal arts education to tackle problems from all angles, and the commencement speaker, Broadway's SPIDER-MAN: Turn off the Dark director Philip William McKinley '73, urged them to use their talents and to take risks. …

Luke Burke, Lake Zurich High School Class of 2008, was selected by his peers to give the Student Remarks at the 2012 Parson’s New School for Design, Photography Department Graduation Ceremony. Burke spoke at the ceremony at which he received a BFA from Parson’s on May 17. He reflected on the collective experience he and his classmates had during their four-year journey at Parson’s. Arthur Ou, director of BFA Parson’s New School for Design, had this to say about Burke, “Since I've gotten to know Luke from my Junior Seminar class with him, he has grown to be an accomplished artist, with resolve and determination. On April 28, 2012, Diana Kucharski, a resident of Lake Zurich, joined more than 180 Bachelor and Master students to receive their degrees as Judson University's 67th graduating class. Kucharski received a degree in Early Childhood Education. Judson University held two separate commencement ceremonies in Herrick Chapel, in an effort to allow more family members to attend the event and to provide a more intimate setting for the service. Graduates of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences & the School of Leadership and Business received their degrees at 10 a.m., followed by graduates from the School of Art, Design, and Architecture and the School of Education at 2 p.m.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln granted degrees to more than 2,800 students at commencement exercises May 4 and 5. It was the largest graduating class in UNL history. The graduates included: Lake Zurich: Kaitlyn Melissa Haras, bachelor of science in environmental studies from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Lake Zurich: Jeffrey Philip Midday, master of science from Graduate Studies.
