Chili Open Cancelled Again Due to Ice Conditions

Ever-changing weather has prevented Crystal Lake from freezing enough to hold annual winter golf outing.

Crystal Lake's Annual Chili Open Golf Classic has fallen prey to Mother Nature once again. The Crystal Lake Park District announced Monday the 42nd annual event held on the frozen lake surface near Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., has been cancelled due to unsafe ice conditions. "Ice conditions continue to deteriorate making it unsafe to complete any course preparations," park district spokesperson Jenny Leech said in the release. Registered golfers will receive a full refund. The Chili Open was originally scheduled for Jan. 19, but lack of ice and cold temperatures forced organizers to push the winter past-time to Feb. 2. Watch out Tiger!

Our Whiz Kid for this week is Lake Zurich High School incoming junior,  Adam Schulte. Lake Zurich Boy's Golf Team Concludes Solid Season in Tough Conference

Team finishes 3-4 in conference, 3-5 overall.

With the last regular season match played on Columbus day and the championships played last weekend, Lake Zurich High School boys golf coach Terry Geoghegan can now reflect on how his team performed this year. "They played pretty well. Lake Forest, who we played, won the state championship. This is a tough conference that we're  in," said Geoghegan. While the team didn't have a winning record, Geoghegan believes the team had a solid season that showed steady improvement as it progressed. "I think it was a great season. Our four top scorers were really, really good. It was the best in the four years that I've been coaching," said Geoghegan. Geoghegan cited several standout players on the team, but without a doubt, the top golfer on the team…

Lake Zurich Girls Golf Team a "Tight-Knit Group"

Coach Mel Fox proud of the progress that her team made over the two-month season.

When discussing Lake Zurich's girls golf team, coach Mel Fox brims with unbridled enthusiasm. While many high school coaches are passionate about the particular team that they oversee, Fox's spirited conversation is especially noteworthy. "There are 16 girls on my team, and they are just like a family," said Fox. "They hang out together, go to restaurants together, they're just really a tight-knit group. You know, it's always true, every year they really bond. But this year they're especially close." While the team didn't earn a state ranking, and therefore didn't qualify for the state finals, they did advance to the sectional tournament, for which Fox is extremely proud. "We finished fifth or sixth in our conference. We played really well…
