Ela Township Race Still On After Petition Challenge Defeated

Electoral board rules incumbent party, Ela First, has enough signatures; no evidence of fraud.

  After some seven hours of testimony and deliberations, over two evenings, the Ela Township Electoral Board decided that the Ela First Party should stay on the ballot for the April 9 election. The Ela Tax Reform slate challenged the petition papers saying the Ela First Party did not have enough signatures from eligible voters and claiming a pattern of fraud in obtaining signatures.  “Obviously, we’re happy with the decision and we thought it was the right decision. Ela Township Property Assessment Appeals Deadline Looms

Assessor has backlog of reviews but pledges to work with homeowners to avoid board of review hearings in Waukegan.

Ela Township residents received assessment notices in the fall, and Monday, Nov. 22,  is the deadline to raise questions about  the current market value of your home. Though most of the assessments were on the decline in the township, market values have dropped significantly, says John Barrington, Ela Township Assessor. "Property owners are seeking to limit their assessment which will in turn reduce their tax bill which is received in May," Barrington said.  "The deadline for appeals is Monday, and at this point in the game we would prefer to work with homeowners directly. With the number of backlog reviews we have, we won't likely be able to get any answers by the deadline," said Barrington. Barrington says his office's goal is to review …

Veteran's Day will be honored locally with the following events: In recognition of Veterans Day, Patch is honored to announce its partnership with the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a five-star charity that provides financial, rehabilitation and transitional services to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. Established in 2000, the fund originally provided financial support to the dependents of service members who lost their lives while serving the nation. Absentee Voters Can Vote in Person at Ela Town Hall

In person absentee ballots accepted from Friday, Oct. 29 through Monday, Nov. 1.

While early voting officially ends at 4 p.m., Thursday, in person absentee voting will be available from Friday through Monday at Ela Town Hall. Those who wish to cast an absentee ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 2 election may do so from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Octo. 30, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1, according to Lucy Prouty, Ela Township supervisor. Absentee voters can enter Ela Town Hall at the front or rear of the building. Voting booths are located in the basement of the building in Ela Township Board room. Two Days Left to Vote Early

Voters can stop in at Ela Town Hall today and Thursday to mark their ballots.

Only two days remain to vote early and avoid the rush on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 2. Early voting is available to Lake Zurich residents from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., today and Thursday, Oct. 28, at Ela Town Hall. Early voters can enter Ela Town Hall at the front or rear of the building. Voting booths are located in the basement of the building in Ela Township Board room. Yesterday, counts on the automated ballot counting machines indicated more than 1,600 Ela Township residents have voted early so far.
