Digital Library Lab Program at Ela Library

First program is Thursday, Jan. 10.

    Learn to download books, magazines, music and more from Ela Area Public Library’s digital library at www.eapl.org. your device, relevant passwords, cords and your laptop, if needed, to the Library on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5 or 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 10 or 11 a.m.; Thursday, Jan. 24 at 10 or11 a.m.; or Wednesday January 30 at 3 or 4 p.m. Discover how easy it is to read a magazine, bestseller and download your favorite tune to a variety of digital devices, all for free. This program is limited to Ela Area cardholders only. Please register for only one session by calling the Library at (847) 438-3433, online at www.eapl.org or email infodesk@eapl.org.

Ela Library Begins Winter Storytime Session

Check out the winter schedule.

    Ela Area Public Library’s winter storytimes run from January 8 to February 1 for all ages.Registration is required. Programs offered include:  Songs and Stories (for children ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult) meets Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Terrific Twos & Threes (for children accompanied by an adult) meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Little Movers (for ages 18 to 35 months accompanied by an adult) meets Thursdays at 10 a.m. Lap Tots (for children birth to 23 months accompanied by an adult) meets Fridays at 10 a.m. Additional storytime sessions will take place in February and April. Four Candidates Submit Petitions for Library’s Board Openings

Four candidates file for four positions, leaving uncontested race for Ela Area Library trustee election.

   Four candidates filed for four Ela Area Public Library Board openings. Library Board trustee Vicki Burger, Hanan Hafez, Mary Ann Hall and James Stamoolis filed petitions for the April 9, 2013 election. Three are Lake Zurich residents, and Stamoolis is a resident of Kildeer. The filing period ended December 26.      Each elected candidate will serve a four-year term. Burger was appointed to the Board in 2004, elected to the Board in 2005 and has served for two consecutive terms. Each candidate is uncontested.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover at Ela Library

Fluffy friends can stay over at library, Jan. 2.

  What are your stuffed animals up to while you’re sleeping? Drop off your stuffed animal at the Ela Area Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 2 through 6 p.m. for a special nighttime program. Librarians will tuck them in and you can come back Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10:30 a.m. to pick up your friend and see all the adventures captured in photographs! This program is for ages 4 to 7. Food for Fines Starts Today at Ela Area Public Library

Overdue fines piling up? Clear them by donating food, paper supplies for families in need.

  The Ela Area Public Library will once again offer its patrons a chance to trade their current Library fines to support a local food pantry during its popular Food for Fines program in December.           The Library will accept donations of non-perishable boxed or canned food, paper goods and cleaning supplies as payment for current overdue fines December 1-30. Historic School Fire Program at Ela Area Public Library

Learn about the tragic fire at Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago.

  One of the worst school fires in U.S. history occurred on Dec. 1, 1958, on the north side of Chicago. The Our Lady of the Angels fire resulted in the death of 92 children and three nuns. On the 54th anniversary of this tragedy, the Ela Area Public Library will host a program on the tragedy. Learn what really caused the fire and the changes in the fire code that were put into place after this disaster. Historical presenter Jim Gibbons will provide information about life before, during and after the fire.   Library’s Mitten Tree Benefits Local Organizations The Ela Area Public Library is accepting new and “like new” mittens, gloves, scarves and hats for the Library’s annual Mitten Tree. Beginning Sunday, Dec. 1, donations can be placed on the tree located in the Library’s lobby through Jan. 4, 2013. Last year, more than 450 items were distributed to the residents at Mount St. Joseph in Lake Zurich and the Lake County Haven in Libertyville. This annual program is just one of many meaningful projects run by the Library to benefit the community at large. Woodcarvers at Ela Library This Weekend

Carvers will be selling ornaments for a good cause

You can head to the Ela Area Public Library this weekend to see the North Suburban Woodcarvers demonstrate their craft. They will be on hand at the library Saturday and Sunday demonstrating their work, and selling some of their creations. The Woodcarvers will be at the library, 275 Mohawk Trail, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. While the Woodcarvers have many creations, and will be showcasing them this weekend, they’ll also be selling some just in time for Christmas to benefit a good cause. The proceeds from the sales of their works, which include Christmas ornaments, will benefit Shriners Hospital for Children. No registration is required for the event, which is open to the public and free to attend.

Stock Up On Supplies For Ela Library's Mitten Tree

Though it’s been unseasonably warm, we all know the cold is coming. While many of us are prepared, there are many others who just don’t have the money to buy all of the cold weather gear they need. To help them out, the Ela Area Public Library is hosting a mitten drive. But it’s not only mittens that you can donate to help out those in need. The library is accepting new and like new mittens, gloves, scarves and hats for its annual Mitten Tree. So if you see a deal on mittens on Black Friday, you might want to stock up to help out. Considering Running for Office In Lake Zurich?

Village trustees, school board trustees and library board trustees will be on the April ballot.

  Potential candidates have already begun circulating petitions for the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election. Interested candidates can still pick up election packets, which must be filed between Dec. 17 and Dec. 24. On the Lake Zurich village board, the village president, four trustees and the village clerk will be up for election. Seven people have picked up election packets for village seats, according to Deputy Village Clerk Susan Ragsdale. They include sitting trustees Rich Sustich and Tom Poynton. Others who have picked up packets are:Geoffrey Petzel, Tom Matijevic, Hye Matijevic, Scot Unger and Mark Loewes.
