Long Grove Caribou Coffee to be Converted to Peet's

Caribou Coffee closing underperforming stores.

The Long Grove Caribou Coffee, which just opened in December, is one of the Caribou Coffee shops which will remain open and convert to a Peet's, according a store employee.  The Minneapolis-based chain was taken private in a $340 million deal with Joh. A. Benkiser, a German investment company, this year, according to the Chicago Tribune. The new owner will close 80 stores, and convert another 88 into Peet's Coffee & Tea.   The Barrington Caribou Coffee, which just opened last summer as a kiosk at Jewel-Osco, will close this Sunday, April 14, at noon, according to a store employee.
