Middle School North Students Fare Well at Solo, Ensemble Contest

Students earn perfect scores at Illinois Grade School Music Association’s District 8 Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Lake Zurich Middle School North band, orchestra, and chorus students participated in the annual IGSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest, on Saturday, Feb 9. This year’s contest was hosted at Deerpath Middle School in Lake Forest. Sixteen schools participated, with over 1,000 pieces being performed. When the students arrived at Deerpath Middle School, they were greeted by hundreds of other student musicians from schools in the northwest suburbs. Performances were held in classrooms with a judge, who rated students on intonation, rhythm, stage presentation, and musicianship. Lake Zurich Band To Rock Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Longtime area favorite Triple Dawg Dare to play at weekend charity concert.

The decision to form a cover band and play bars, clubs, private parties and charity benefits had already been made. What was tripping up these five musically inclined guys was what to call themselves. “It’s harder than naming a child,” jokes Dan McNamara, a Lake Zurich resident and one of the band’s members. After kicking ideas around for a while, the group came up with a mutually agreeable moniker: Triple Dawg Dare. The name doesn’t really refer to anything in particular, it just sounds right, he said. That was in 2004. Flash forward seven years and the band is still together, rehearsing weekly, playing venues in Lake Zurich and the surrounding area, occasionally straying as far south as Oak Forest and as far north as Waukegan.
