Bill Kurtis to be Keynote Speaker at Lake County Chamber Dinner

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce's 98th annual Awards and Installation Dinner will feature legendary journalist Bill Kurtis.

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce and guests will celebrate the organization’s 98th anniversary with a dinner celebration at the Lake Forest Club on April 17 to welcome new board members and honor outstanding business leaders within the chamber.  The annual dinner is one of the chamber’s largest fundraisers with proceeds from the event being used to support member programming and services for the Lake County Chamber. This year's theme is "Innovation, Ingenuity & Reinvigorating Your Brand." Acclaimed producer, host and major market news anchor Bill Kurtis will provide the keynote address for the evening. Local Writer Wins Award for Book

Nancy Shepherdson of Deer Park is a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Zurich.

Nancy Shepherdson, a writer from Deer Park, has won an honorable mention in the national American Society of Journalists and Authors awards for her book, Built on Values: Creating an Enviable Culture that Outperforms the Competition. The book, written with JetBlue co-founder Ann Rhoades, was one of only 11 book awards given by the group this year. "Prize-winning entries in the ASJA Awards reflect such writing and stylistic excellence that we authors read them and think ‘I wish I'd written that!'" said Salley Shannon, ASJA's president. "We created the awards not just to honor outstanding work, but to inspire us." Young Entrepreneurs are Awarded Start Up Funds

For the third year in a row, the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Young Entrepreneur Academy (YEA!).

A panel of investors from the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce (LZACC) sponsored program, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) recently awarded four businesses from YEA! a collective $5,154 They also chose Jason Krasavage and his business, Modern Media Conversions, to compete in the Saunders Scholars Bright Idea Competition in Rochester, NY. “He presented the best and his business plan was very solid," said Lynn O’Brien, investor panel judge. The awards were presented at Lake Zurich High School. Krasavage, 13-year-old eighth grade student at Middle School North will travel to the competition in May and compete against 30 other YEA! chapter winners by presenting his business idea. "Evening of Excellence" Recognizes Community Leaders

Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce holds its version of the Oscars and Golden Globes combined.

About 250 people wined, dined and danced, but only a handful came away with awards from Saturday night’s “Evening of Excellence.”  The annual recognition event, open to the public, has been sponsored by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce since 1995. “It’s our version of the Oscars and the Golden Globes rolled into one,” said Phil Guerrero, of PMG Wealth Management, past president of the chamber. Held at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer, the Evening of Excellence featured live music provided by the Roy Vombrack Orchestra. The Lake Zurich High School Chamber Strings provided music before the awards ceremony began. This year’s awards recognized the business of the year, citizen of the year and educator of the year. Evening of Excellence to Honor Stand-Outs in the Community

Top business, community leaders to be feted with awards.

It’s that time of year when local businesses, organizations and individuals that have done well for themselves and for the community get a pat on the back. The Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce will formally recognize the crème de la crème at its annual bash, Evening of Excellence, set for Saturday, Jan. 22 at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer. The evening will start off with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner, live music featuring the Roy Vombrack Orchestra and an awards presentation.
