Ela Township Race Still On After Petition Challenge Defeated

Electoral board rules incumbent party, Ela First, has enough signatures; no evidence of fraud.

  After some seven hours of testimony and deliberations, over two evenings, the Ela Township Electoral Board decided that the Ela First Party should stay on the ballot for the April 9 election. The Ela Tax Reform slate challenged the petition papers saying the Ela First Party did not have enough signatures from eligible voters and claiming a pattern of fraud in obtaining signatures.  “Obviously, we’re happy with the decision and we thought it was the right decision. Now we look forward to a positive campaign in which we can talk about all the wonderful things we were able to do for the community and to be able to continue to do that,” said Ela Township Assessor John Barrington, speaking for Ela First, after the decision at Ela Town Hall, …

Candidates Run on United Lake Zurich Party Slate

Village President Suzanne Branding runs for office with slate of candidates.

  The United Lake Zurich Party filed its nominating papers for six individuals to be placed on the April 9, 2013 ballot:  Suzanne K. Branding for Village President; Kathleen Johnson for Village Clerk; Helmut Gerlach, Todd Minden, Ildiko Schultz, and Debra Vander Weit for Village Trustees.  Suzanne Branding was born and raised in Lake Zurich before moving away for a number of years, returning to Lake Zurich eight years ago.  Ms. Branding, a graduate of Ela Vernon (now Lake Zurich) High school in Lake Zurich and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, is married with 2 adult children.  Prior to raising her family, she was a sales, marketing, and training representative for a major Illinois telecommunications company. What we need is an economic development committee whose purpose is to do nothing but explore new business development opportunities, plan for growth, and market current Lake Zurich businesses. Three Lake Zurich Trustees Won’t Run for Re-election

Thirteen candidates file for village seats in April election

    Dec. 26 was the last day to file for the April 9 election. Three current trustees whose seats are up are not running for re-election, Jonathon Sprawka, Rich Sustich and Terry Mastandrea. Mastandrea was appointed in September 2011to fill the term of Mark Ernst who left for a job out of state. Trustee Rich Sustich said he decided not to seek re-election for family and personal reasons.
