Rescue Puppies With Parvo Need Help

Lake Zurich-based Green Pup Shelter rescued a litter of puppies from Barrington Hills that are undergoing treatment for the deadly parvovirus.

Green Pup Shelter recently rescued a litter of five 4-month-old German shepherd-boxer mix puppies, and three are in the hospital fighting for their lives. The no-kill Lake Zurich-based shelter is asking for donations to help pay for the puppies’ costly care. Misty Lindstrand, vice president of Green Pup Shelter, said the shelter received a call that there were 15 dogs running loose in Barrington Hills. Rescue workers went to the home to save the dogs. “We thought the house was abandoned. The guy who lives there came home. He has cancer and he said he realizes he should have gotten the dogs fixed. They kept having litters,” she said. “We contacted a few different rescues, but nobody stepped up. There are so many homeless dogs, with …

Hello, World! I’m Lexi, a quiet, cuddly 6-year-old domestic short hair who loves to play with fuzzy mice and take naps on the window sill. I’m kind of the nosy neighbor at my foster home at Young At Heart Pet Rescue Cat Center in Prairie View/Buffalo Grove. I’m always looking out the window, not wanting to miss a minute of the action outside. I’m very sweet and quite laid back. I’m good with other cats, and I have no problem with cat-savvy dogs. I’m also a star with my litter box. Like all Young At Heart Pet Rescue animals, I received top-notch veterinary care when I first arrived. Boy, were they surprised what they found! I have what they call “Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease,” which is a scary way of saying that I cough …

Upscale Women's Resale Shop Opens

Designor Consignor's proceeds will go to support animal rescue organizations.

Designor Consignor, a non-profit consignment store that sells gently used, high-end apparel for women and juniors, opened for business Sept. 1 in the Village Square Shopping Center, 737 W. Route 22. Operated by On Angels' Wings, a non-profit organization that supports animal rescue, Designor Consignor is located two doors down from Trader Joe's in the corner space in front of Tuesday Morning.    Veterinarian Kathryn Wilkes and Lake Zurich resident Carol Rowe manage the shop. Wilkes, who is a founding board member of On Angels' Wings, manages consignments, and Rowe is in charge of operations.  In addition to consigning higher-end women's and juniors clothing and accessories, Designor Consignor accepts donations for both the Lake Zurich …
