Sweet, easygoing domestic short hair likes naps and toy mice.
Hello, World! I’m Lexi, a quiet, cuddly 6-year-old domestic short hair who loves to play with fuzzy mice and take naps on the window sill. I’m kind of the nosy neighbor at my foster home at Young At Heart Pet Rescue Cat Center in Prairie View/Buffalo Grove. I’m always looking out the window, not wanting to miss a minute of the action outside. I’m very sweet and quite laid back. I’m good with other cats, and I have no problem with cat-savvy dogs. I’m also a star with my litter box. Like all Young At Heart Pet Rescue animals, I received top-notch veterinary care when I first arrived. Boy, were they surprised what they found! I have what they call “Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease,” which is a scary way of saying that I cough …

Independent older gentleman seeks special home for love and possible ‘Sanctuary.’
Q: What do you get when you cross a Boston Terrier or Pug with a Chihuahua? A: Me! I’m Sprout, an irresistibly cute older gentleman with a funny independent streak. I came to Young At Heart Pet Rescue after losing my way and ending up at the pound. I waited a whole month for my owners to come find me, but they never did. On my very last day, when I had no more time left, a very nice volunteer from Young at Heart came and picked me up. Whew! That was close! Now I’m safe and comfy in a foster home, where I’m waiting to find a special family who will love me and keep me close well into my golden years. Speaking of “golden years,” I’m somewhere between 12 and 14 years old. I’m still spunky; I just appreciate my naps more. I play a little …

Easygoing 9-year-old feline seeks home with cuddles and catnip.
Attention, Lake Zurich! Terrific cat seeks forever home! That terrific cat is me: Topher is my name, and snuggling is my game! I’m a sweet and super-friendly buff tabby who lives for head rubs and lap time. Catnip toys are pretty cool too, as I’m a rather playful fellow who enjoys a little snort of kitty hooch every now and again. I’m a real love bug. When I want to get your attention, I’ll gently reach out and touch you with my front paws. I’m so sincere that my friends at Young At Heart Pet Rescue can’t resist giving me the hugs and snuggles that I enjoy so much. I’m 9 years old, and somehow I lost my way. I ended up at a local animal shelter, but no one came to claim me. Young At Heart stepped in to take me before my time was up at the …

This outgoing older gentleman is the perfect example of a cool, confident senior dog
Hi, everybody! I’m Ronnie, one of the most gracious guys you’ll ever meet. I’m probably a shepherd-husky mix. Whatever I am, I’m darn handsome. My paperwork says I’m about 10-years-old, but in my heart, I’m really no more than 5. I love to romp around the back yard trying to get my foster siblings to play. I show off my play stance, jump over them, and run circles around them. When I see a new dog or a person I haven’t met yet, it’s in my nature to walk up to them and say a polite, tail-wagging "hello." And I just love puppies! They’re fluffy and hilarious! My friends at Young At Heart Pet Rescue say I’m the perfect representation of a spry, confident older dog. I’ve got nothing to prove, and it absolutely shows in my demeanor. My pictures…

This easygoing calico will sidle her way into your lap – and your heart.
I’m Clementine, and I can’t wait to be your darling! I’m a 7-1/2-years-young, long-haired calico who simply adores people. I’ve been known to stand up to greet you the first time you say "hello," and if you talk to me and pet me, I’ll talk back to make sure you know how much I appreciate the affection. Yes, I’m definitely a talker. I’ll softly chat you up when I’m looking for attention (which is often). A long-haired lady like myself needs a bit of maintenance, so it’s a good thing I enjoy being brushed. Just like at the beauty parlor, I’ll chatter away while you’re tending to my soft and pretty coat. I’m so happy to be out of a cage and safe with Young At Heart Pet Rescue that I just can’t get enough attention these days. If you give me …

Senior Spaniel mix offers something for everyone in an 18-pound package.
Greetings one and all from Professor, an eight-to 10-year-old Spaniel mix with a sweet face and an even sweeter demeanor. Although my name is Professor, it may as well be Ambassador, because I’m the perfect example of just how awesome an older dog can be. Although some say the mottled markings around my eyes give me the look of a distinguished gentleman, my constant smile tells you I’m always ready to have some fun. Looking for a playmate? I’m game! Want a snuggler? That’s me! Feel like going for a walk? Count me in! Love other dogs? Cats? Kids? Me too! Up for a road trip? Shotgun! Smart folks know that age is just a number, and that’s especially true in my case. I play, run, and romp with all the zest of a young fellow. I’m 18 pounds of …

Spunky 7-year-old feline seeks love on her own terms.
Meow! I’m Winter, a beautiful female feline who has been waiting for a home of her own for far too long. I’m Young At Heart Pet Rescue’s sweet little long-termer, making my home at the group’s Cat Center at Best Friends Pet Care in Prairie View for almost four years now. Four years! Really! Can you believe that?! I’m a cat person’s cat. I’m independent, funny, and very entertaining. I’ll love you with all my heart, but on my terms. I don’t show well on first meeting. See, my life before I came to Young at Heart was pretty rough. I was treated very badly by some very mean people, and although I’m safe and sound now, I’m still really defensive when new humans come to meet me. But if you visit me a few times, you’ll see that I’m a kitty who …

Chloe and Hannah await a wonderful foster or forever home together.
Hi, everybody! We’re Chloe and Hannah, a bonded pair of sweet and special girls. We ended up at the pound when our elderly owner could no longer physically care for us. We’d describe ourselves as a Sheltie/Australian shepherd mix (Chloe) and a Pointer mix (Hannah). We’re 8-and-9-years-old and have been together for the past eight years. We’re both fairly petite. At less than 40 pounds each, we’ve managed to maintain our girlish figures even as we enter our golden years. We love each other dearly and are like two peas in a pod. We’re both snuggly and affectionate, and we love walks and car rides. Plus, we both think fluffy dog beds are the bee’s knees! We really like to spend time in the yard. (Chloe especially likes to keep tabs on what’s …

Maximus gratefully accepts affection in any form.
I’m Maximus – Max for short. I’m about 7-years-old, a great snuggler, super affectionate, and playful. I am a big, butterball of a guy with equally large amounts of love to give. I love being brushed and petted, and I really enjoy a good game of feather chasing. Check out my video to see me in action. I’m good with my litter box, and I have lots of four-legged friends at Young At Heart Pet Rescue. I’d love a home with one of the cats I currently share space with at the Lake Zurich Petco Adoption Center. I’d also do just fine as an only cat or in a home with a cat-savvy dog like my pal Maggie. See, I can be a bully to some cats, so it’s easiest if I go to a home with another cat I already know. Since Young At Heart’s kitty adoption fee is $…

Young At Heart ‘tripod’ loves soft beds, cozy blankets, and sniffing the world around him.
Hello, people! I’m Buster, a 10-year-old Chow mix. My sweet teddy-bear face doesn’t come close to telling the story of my long journey to Young At Heart Pet Rescue and the new life that awaits me, so I’ll do the best I can to spell it all out here. Trust me: It’s a page-turner! Buster the Four-Legged Dog I used to have a home (most dogs don’t survive to be my age living on the streets), but I lost my way and ended up at a local pound. I waited there on the concrete floor of my kennel for four long months, hoping that someone kind and loving would take me in. I had a limp in my right rear leg, but I was sweet and gentle, so the shelter staff kept trying to find a place for me. When Young at Heart found me, my rescue friends took me to the …

Breaking news from Sprout's foster mom: The little guy's come around quite a bit as he's settled in, and he now loves his foster mom just as much as his foster dad. In the spirit of sibling rivalry, however, he still prefers to hang out with whomever happens to be snuggling his foster brother at any given time. ;)   more ›
