LZHS Bears' coach says he's concerned about friction in the community and friction between boys.
Lake Zurich High School Coach Dave Proffitt says he's concerned that the friction between parents that led to Lake Zurich youth football splitting into two leagues, will filter down to the children. "I don't think anything good can come out of this. I hate to see this happen in Lake Zurich," Proffitt said. He said he's concerned boys from two different leagues will come into high school feeling animosity towards each other. "I support the Lake Zurich Flames 100 percent. I do think another program starting up is not a good idea because I believe there will be some friction within the community," he said. Proffitt said he supports the Flames because they have done a good job of providing youth football for the community. "They've done …

The Deerfield Park District is hoping to get the word out to more middle school athletes about the upcoming HERSHEY'S Track & Field Games at Deerfield High School May 19. In previous years, more than 40 students participated in the event but attendance is now down to about 12 to 25, reported the Chicago Tribune. "I'm surprised we don't get more because it is a free event," Deerfield Park District recreation Supervisor Jim Gariti told the Tribune. "The kids who do come to the event have a great time. For those who don't play baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and just want to run — this is great." The HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games are the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America, with hundreds of thousands of children …

LZHS Football Coach Dave Profitt says he supports both leagues as long as safety, fun and good coaching are the priorities.
A second Lake Zurich youth football league has formed, the Lake Zurich Bears, prompted by the Lake Zurich Flames decision to switch football leagues. Wil Juarez, a long-time coach and former board member with the Flames, said he started the Lake Zurich Bears after the Flames decided to switch from The Chicago Youth Football League (TCYFL) to the smaller Northwest Youth Football League (NWYFL). Juarez said he was contacted by parents who wanted to remain with TCYFL. “I think the parents want to compete and they feel the program was moving backwards instead of forward. That was one of the biggest complaints,” Juarez said. Juarez called a meeting last month with the Lake Zurich High School coaches, including head football Coach Dave …
