Obituary: Albert John Fritz, Inventor of Schwinn Stingray

Fritz passed away May 7.

  Born October 8, 1924, Albert John Fritz passed away May 7, 2013 in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family. Albert graduated from eighth grade and went to stenography school, hoping to become a court reporter. During World War II, he served on Gen. Douglas MacArthur's staff in the Philippines, where he was wounded. After the war, he signed on at Schwinn, the booming bicycle company whose factories and offices dominated his old neighborhood. He stayed for 40 years, rising from the factory floor to the top ranks of management. When, early in his career, Fritz heard that Frank W. We didn't have everything growing up but my parents made sure that we all rode Schwinn bikes. The Stingray and Fairlady were the hottest bikes on the block in the early 70's. :) Just got rid of it a few years ago.   more ›

Obituary: Charles “Chuck” W. Matheson II, 70

Resident of Lake Zurich since 1977.

Visitation for Chuck W. Matheson will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  Interment will be private.  Chuck was born on Feb. 1, 1943 in Miami, FL and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI the son of the late William and Dorothy (nee Hull) Matheson and passed away on Thursday, April 4.  Chuck attended Michigan State University and had also played on the Michigan State Football Team.  Chuck’s devotion and loyalty to Michigan State was as strong today as it was when he attended there. Stevenson Community Mourns Dana Kingsley

Friends are finding ways to remember sophomore Dana Kingsley, who died Saturday.

The Stevenson High School community is mourning the loss of sophomore Dana Kingsley, 15, who died Saturday. A Facebook page was created the same day in Dana’s memory. “Dana was such a sweet and kind young woman. This page is a place for those to remember her, and also for suicide awareness,” the page says. As of Monday morning, it had attracted more than 11,000 fans. “No words can express this loss. Today is such a tragic day. Dana was such a beautiful and sweet girl. She will never be forgotten. She will always be in our hearts. We have lost such a great friend, but heaven has a gained a wonderful angel. ♥,” wrote an administrator of the page.   Carl James Hansen, 57, of Lake Zurich, passed away, March 17, 2013, at home in the company of family. He was born on Aug. 31, 1955, to Carl and Sandra Hansen in Long Island, New York. Carl enjoyed painting, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was a driven man who will be missed. Harriet Felicia Lewis, 97, was born October 23, 1915 in Evanston and she passed away March 9, 2013 in Des Plaines. She was a Des Plaines resident, and formerly lived in Palatine and Wauconda.  Survivors include her sons, Michael R. Lewis and Glenn H. Lewis; grandchildren, Felicia Lewis-Grant, Maxwell Lewis and Daniel Lewis; and sister Adele Luchs. Services for 54 year old Paul Kalcsics of Lake Zurich will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home in Palatine.

Paul Kalcsics, 54, a 20 years resident of Lake Zurich, was born on September 15, 1958 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Edwin and Virginia (nee Kwasek) Kalcsics and passed away on Thursday, March 7th.  Beloved husband of Cathy nee: (Stressler) Kalcsics; loving father of Christina and Daniel Kalcsics; dear brother of Drew (Janet) Kalcsics; also survived by many other loving family and friends. Paul was an engineer, gardener, artist, chef and avid music enthusiast. Erika A. Hummel, 78, a resident of Lake Zurich and formerly of Palatine. Erika was born on January 24, 1935 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Erik and Kate (nee Bahl) Beck. She passed away on Saturday, February 23rd at her home in Lake Zurich.  Erika will be remembered for her contagious laughter and smile, bringing joy to all those around her.  She also enjoyed playing many different sports.  Erika had worked alongside of her husband as a secretary for 35 years in their family construction business.
