Station 1 serves as the headquarters of the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department. In total, the department has four stations, but only two are located within the village. That's because in addition to Lake Zurich, the department is responsible for covering portions of Kildeer, North Barrington, Hawthorn Woods, Deer Park as well as portions of unincorporated areas in Cuba, Ela and Fremont Townships. The entire 25-square-mile area is referred to as the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District.
