Fire department hosts open house on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Sparky the Dog, puppet shows and rides on an antique fire truck are among the favorite activities at Lake Zurich Fire Department’s annual open house.

The open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6 at Fire Station #1, 321 S. Buesching Road.

Families can see a dive tank demonstration, watch firefighters do a car extrication and get fire safety tips at Lake Zurich’s open house for Fire Prevention Week.

The open house kicks off National Fire Protection week. Lake Zurich village board passed a proclamation for the week, which has a theme of “Prevent Kitchen Fires.”

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires _most of which result from unattended cooking _ and teaching local residents how to prevent kitchen fires from starting in the first place.
