Intense Snow Expected This Morning

An intense band of snow is expected to move across northern Illinois this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A special weather statement has been issued for Lake, McHenry, DuPage, Kane and Cook counties until further notice as snow has developed and is quickly "sliding east across northern Illinois this morning," according to the NWS.

The heaviest burst of snowfall is expected to fall along and west of a line from McHenry County to DeKalb County, according to the National Weather Service.

The intense snow will quickly reduce visibilities to around one half-mile at times and up to one inch of snowfall is expected in a short period of time, according to the weather report. Winds have been gusting at times from 35 to 40 mph.

Motorists planning travel in the affected areas this morning should prepare for hazardous travel conditions and allow for additional time.
