Church Aims To Feed 300 Families Through Mobile Food Pantry

The Chapel's Lake Zurich Campus will hold a Mobile Food Pantry program Aug. 19.

The hopes to help 300 needy families with its Mobile Food Pantry, slated from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 19.

"What we're trying to do with is look for opportunities to reach out and help the community," said Ken Rasbid, who is coordinating the Mobile Food Pantry effort.

The Mobile Food Pantry is a program that has partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to purchase food and other items and then distribute the products to families in need. Rasbid said many of The Chapel's six other campuses also offer Mobile Food Pantry programs.

"There's really a Mobile Food Pantry going on every couple of weeks," said Rasbid.

At the Lake Zurich campus's first Mobile Food Pantry, volunteers provided food to 175 families, Rasbid said. While food distribution started at 5 p.m., people were there waiting in their cars as early as 11 a.m.

This time around, they're aiming to serve 300 families. Rasbid said families get enough food for two weeks, including meat and produce, along with an on-site meal.

"We're just trying to do God's work and put the food in peoples' hands," said Rasbid. "What's amazing is they didn't want to just have people stand in line and wait for food. We want to give them their dignity back. We're not just giving them food — we're feeding them."

The Mobile Food Pantry will be held in the church's parking lot. is located at 330 S. Old Rand Road.
