Celebrate the Fourth of July with Lake Zurich

This year’s Fourth of July fireworks are sure to wow Lake Zurich residents when red, white and blue displays light up the sky over the lake.

Five Alarm Fireworks will ignite larger fireworks from a barge on the lake, said Dave Peterson, the village’s Parks and Recreation manager. The Lake Properties Owners Association is allowing the village to use the privately owned lake for the fireworks display.

The fireworks were set off in Paulus Park in the past, where a large area had to be cordoned off for safety reasons, Peterson said.  The change was made this year due to safety, he said. Lake Zurich wanted to make sure the display was far enough away from the public, he said.

Lake Zurich spends $20,000 on the fireworks display. Five Alarm Fireworks will be able to use a bigger shell _ six inches rather than four inches_ so the display will be more spectacular, he said. An area around the barge will be cordoned off to be safe, he said.

Residents and guests will be able to see the fireworks display from anywhere along the shoreline and from Paulus Park, where there will be more space to view the display, he said. Peterson finds there’s a buzz about the new location and people are excited.
