Spring Fling a Big Success for Lake Zurich Football
Lake Zurich Quarterback Club's annual fundraising party exceeds expectations.
This year’s theme for the Lake Zurich Quarterback Club (LZQC) was “Tradition Tailgate,” and if the spread of food provided by Eduardo’s Catering in Wauconda was at every tailgate party, the actual game might be in danger of becoming an afterthought.
Held on Saturday, the 13th annual Spring Fling Fundraiser, helps to raise money for the entire football program. The event was held at the Knights of Columbus, on the second floor at 365 Surryse Rd. The evening’s festivities included an open bar, an assortment of tasty appetizers provided by the afforementioned Eduardo’s Catering, a silent auction, a raffle and a baggo tournament.
“We had close to 200 people in attendance and raised over $11,0000,” said LZQC president Phil Johnson. “We definitely exceeded our expectations.”

The Lake Zurich Quarterback Club was started 13 years ago, mostly by parents of Lake Zurich High School football players. While the club’s mission is “to provide the best experience possible for the students participating in the high school football program,” the club is a critical fundraising organization.

“The Quarterback Club helps raise money for the team,” said Johnson, “and with all of the cutbacks, money is tighter than ever before. The Quarterback Club is really important to the school football program.”
The LZQC formed at a time when the school district was no longer able to financially support the entire Bears football program. Both coaches and players depend on the club’s fundraising efforts. LZQC purchases equipment, subsidizes team camps, provides weekly team dinners during the football season and has supported various events associated with the football program.
Due in part to the efforts of the LZQC, Lake Zurich High School’s football program has become one of the most successful and well-endowed in the state. The Bears were state champions in 2007, runners up last year and in 2006 and semi-finalists in 2002 and 2009. They’ve qualified for the state playoffs for eight consecutive years.
