Lake Zurich Lacrosse Champs Get Warm Reception

The gold cup stood prominently displayed in the gym at Lake Zurich High School after the Lake Zurich Lacrosse team entered following a parade led by police and firefighters.

“Who needs a Stanley Cup when you have a cup like this?” one Kildeer trustee said during Sunday’s celebration ceremony honoring the state champs.

It is the first time in the club’s history that a team has won the State Lacrosse Cup. Coach Chuck Vozas thanked parents and village officials for all the support the team received. He thanked team members’ moms for their behind the scenes help.

The team had a 19-5 record in a 109-day season filled with ups and downs, Vozas said.

“Never once did they (team members) ever lose their focus during those 109 days,” he said. “You all have earned this. You seniors, relish this.”
