Lake Zurich High's Lacrosse Team Brings Championship Cup to Village Hall

The accolades continue for the Lake Zurich High School Lacrosse varsity team, which won the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association’s Lacrosse Cup on June 1.

Team members and coaches brought the cup to this week’s Lake Zurich village board meeting where trustees applauded the team’s accomplishment.

The Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club was established in 2002 and the championship was its first since the club began. The club started with 28 players and now has over 400, club officials said.

The team’s championship has brought “pride and respect to Lake Zurich High School and the entire Lake Zurich community,” Mayor Tom Poynton read from a proclamation passed Monday.

“We are just ecstatic to bring this to the community,” said Dave Kintzer, an assistant coach.

Head Coach Chuck Vozas said the team stresses academics, adding the players are outstanding student athletes and every one of the 29 seniors on the varsity team has plans to attend college.

Team members never stopped caring for one another, a characteristic that helps create championship teams, Vozas said.
