Waukegan Y Swim Team Summer Kick-off May 15

While Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff and other Olympic swimmers are getting ready for London this summer, the Northern Lake YMCA Seahorse Swim Team is also using the summer to build skills. The team kicks off its 2012 summer season on Tuesday, May 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Waukegan High School/Brookside campus pool. Future swimmers will have a chance to meet with coaches and learn about the “Seahorse Experience” from current swimmers and their parents.

With a coaching staff that includes former team members, joining the summer team is a great way to get a head start on the more competitive winter season. Coaches focus on basic competitive swimming skills and hope to see all team members enjoy the water while earning the satisfaction of seeing the rewards of dedication and discipline.

All skill levels and ages up to 21 are welcome. Team members must be able to swim 25 yards (one pool length) of freestyle and backstroke. General knowledge of butterfly and breaststroke is encouraged. Waukegan High School students who are planning on swimming for the Bulldogs are especially encouraged to join.
