Bears Wrestlers Headed to State Finals

Lake Zurich High School wrestlers Zach Ullman and Alex Nigro are headed downstate to compete in Saturday’s Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Finals at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

Ullman placed second in the 145-pound weight class in the sectional tournament last weekend at Barrington High School, according to the IHSA. Nigro placed fourth in the 135-pound class in the same tournament. Ullman and Nigro are both seniors.

 In the Class 3A first round individual pairings of the tournament, Ullman, with an overall record of  34 wins and 7 losses, will face Terry Ward of Hinsdale Central, who has a record of 39 wins and 3 losses, according to the IHSA.

Nigro, with an overall record of 27 wins and 10 losses, will be matched against Mike Avelar of Chicago Brother Rice, who has a record of 23 wins and one loss, according to the IHSA.
