SHS Environmental Club is Film Festival Finalist

Stevenson High School's Green Team presents a "trillion dollar" plan for the environment.

What environmental problems would you solve with a $1 trillion budget?

Stevenson High School students presented their plans in a video that has gained national attention, the school reported in itsDaily Digest.

The school's Green Team, a student-run environmental club, created the video for the second annual “If I Had a Trillion Dollars” Youth Film Festival. Their project has been named one of 25 finalists in the festival, which is sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee and the National Priorities Project.

The Green Team's ideas include providing incentives for businesses to reduce their carbon footprints, funding the construction of greener homes and increasing investments in solar and wind power to create more jobs in the U.S. (Their YouTube video is attached to this story.)

The videos will be screened at the festival April 13-15 in Washington, D.C., and judged by a panel headed by actress Susan Sarandon. Click here to see all 25 videos.

During the festival, the students will attend a two-day leadership training session, where they will gain activist and advocacy skills, and a “Lobby Day,” where they will have the opportunity to present their ideas to U.S. legislators.

Green Team members work to educate fellow students on ways they can lower the school and great community's environmental footprint, according to information about the club on Stevenson's website. They also research sustainable projects and propose ways in which Stevenson can improve.

Green Team members include Sriya Potham, Hannah Schlacter, Yamini Chandra, Yana Garmash, Riley Shore, Nadia Khan, Josh Song and Bhabna Pati. Their sponsor is Kirstin Erickson.
