Preschool Screenings, 5K Fun Run Planned in District 95; Scholarship Awarded

5K Fun Run Planned

The Educational Foundation will hold a 5K Fun Run event Oct. 2.

Proceeds from the event will go to the foundation’s "Smart Schools. Bright Futures." campaign. The race will start and end at Heritage Oaks Park in Hawthorn Woods and will wind through local neighborhoods. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m. The 5K Fun Run will start at 9 a.m.


Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as first-, second- and third-place male and female participants in each of the age categories. Race results will be posted on the foundation website. Participants can enjoy refreshments after the race.

Preschool Screenings Scheduled

will hold its annual preschool screening for 3- and 4-year-olds for whom there may be concerns in the areas of gross or fine motor skills, speech-language, or conceptual development. A vision and hearing screening also will be offered. Children must be 3 years old by the screening date.

The screening will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21 at the , 135 S. Buesching Road. For more information, call 1-847-540-7060.

Student Awarded Scholarship

Bryan McHenry of Lake Zurich was one of 80 students from Illinois to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Burger King Scholars program. The company awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships nationwide and parts of Canada through its Have it Your Way Foundation. McHenry is a graduate.

“In today’s economy, it’s too easy for dreams to be deferred. The Burger King Scholars Program helps to ensure that committed and accomplished students can achieve their dreams. This year, we have enriched the program by not only giving away a record number of scholarships, but by adding three $50,000 awards and one $25,000 award,” said Ivette Diaz, executive director of the Have it Your Way Foundation.

They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad.
