MSN Students Finalists in Letters About Literature Contest

Thirteen Lake Zurich Middle School North students advance in reading and writing competition.

Thirteen Lake Zurich Middle School North students were chosen as Illinois Semi-Finalists in the “Letters about Literature Competition.” Students were asked to write letters to authors about how their works changed and shaped the students’ views of themselves and the world. They reflected on their reading experience and thought about what they learned both personally and globally through the words of the author.

This competition is a national reading and writing competition. These students stood out from among the 6,100 letters received in the State of Illinois alone. In the five years that MSN students have been entering this competition, this was the highest number of students recognized for their writing about literature.

Entry is simple, students write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre--fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, contemporary or classic--explaining how that author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves.
