Middle School North Students Fare Well at Solo, Ensemble Contest

Students earn perfect scores at Illinois Grade School Music Association’s District 8 Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Lake Zurich Middle School North band, orchestra, and chorus students participated in the annual IGSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest, on Saturday, Feb 9. This year’s contest was hosted at Deerpath Middle School in Lake Forest. Sixteen schools participated, with over 1,000 pieces being performed.

When the students arrived at Deerpath Middle School, they were greeted by hundreds of other student musicians from schools in the northwest suburbs. Performances were held in classrooms with a judge, who rated students on intonation, rhythm, stage presentation, and musicianship. Middle School North students did an outstanding job as they performed music they had been perfecting in their sectional classes over the last several months.

The enthusiasm of the students was clearly evident as they began to return from their performances with high scores. As has been the tradition, Middle School North did very well. Twelve band students earned perfect scored events, 71 earned first place (“Superior”) ratings, and 24 earned second place (“excellent”) ratings. The orchestra students came home with 3 students achieving perfect scored events, 46 earning first place ratings and 22 earning second place ratings. Twenty-five chorus students earned first place ratings, and 4 earned second place ratings. Congratulations to all the hardworking band, orchestra, and chorus students.

The following students earned perfect scores at contest. From MSN Band: CJ Byrd (2), Marilou Cameron, Danielle Fewkes, Kyle Grenier, Anna Johnson, Joey Lesus (2), Andie Rossiter, Harrison Smith (2), and Mackenzie Weider.

Many congratulations to the fine musicians from MSN who worked so hard to prepare for the Solo & Ensemble Contest, and who are testaments to the many years of success of District 95 music programs.

Congratulations also go out to these Elementary North Orchestra students who earned perfect scores: Eden Kosiorek and Suzie Maniak.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
