High School to Hold Mock Job Interviews

Students will be able to participate in mock job interviews with professionals from their chosen fields.

Lake Zurich High School students and local professionals once again are gearing up for the Consumer Education Reality Interviews.

Held each semester, the Reality Interviews give Lake Zurich High School students the opportunity to participate in a mock job interview with someone who works in their chosen field.

"I think the interviews are one of the most important activities the students partake in during high school," said Cindy Klebba, interview committee chairwoman and Lake Zurich High School business education teacher. "Through this activity, they are introduced to what they should be able to expect in an actual interview, and they have an opportunity to receive valuable critiques and compliments from the interviewer that they will be able to put to good use in the future."

This year's interviews are slated for March 7 and 14. Klebba said students spend two weeks preparing for their mock interviews. Teachers talk about the interview process, and students prepare their applications, resumés and cover letters. Students also are told to dress professionally and introduce themselves with a handshake, Klebba said.

"We also review questions that might be asked, and questions they should ask during the interview process," said Klebba. "After the interview, the students are encouraged to send a thank-you letter stressing their interest and their appreciation for the interview time allowed."

"Overall, we have found that the students find this to be a great experience, having the opportunity to learn skills that they will definitely need and will utilize over and over again in the future," said Klebba.

Interviewers still are being sought for the various career fields. Some of those fields are: accounting, finance, human resources, automotive and transportation, architecture, engineering, communications and media, education, environmental sciences, fine arts, health and medicine, hospitality, public service, and manufacturing technology.
