This Week's Lake Zurich Patch Whiz Kid

Lake Zurich native and University of Wisconsin-Madison student Ryan Hughes recently received the Balanced Man Award from the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity for excellence in academics, service and leadership.

Sigma Phi Epsilon awarded Hughes the Wallace C. Doud Balanced Man Scholarship on Jan. 26 in honor of a prominent Wisconsin graduate and Sigma Phi Epsilon member. This endowment awards a total of $3,000 to Hughes and three other recipients.

The Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet is a semi-annual event held by Sigma Phi Epsilon to honor freshmen and sophomore fraternity members who have demonstrated a dedication to a balanced life at UW-Madison through virtue, diligence and brotherly love.

The Wisconsin Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at UW-Madison on Nov. 13, 1920.
