Gary Fencik Returns to His Lake County Roots

Enjoy an evening with former Chicago Bear Gary Fencik during a special event March 11.

Gary Fencik knows what it takes to be a champion. As a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl Championship team, as someone who was named twice to the Pro Bowl, and now, as a successful businessman, Fencik will share the secrets of his success and reminisce about his days at Barrington High School.

The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation and BHS Alumni Association are presenting a special Alumni Legends event at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11 at Barrington High School. A reception for adults only will follow at the Barrington Country Bistro.

"After attending Barrington High School, Gary went to Northwestern University and Yale so he has an impressive resume in addition to being a Chicago Bear," said Marquerita Geleske, president of the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation.

Geleske said Fencik was receptive to the idea of coming back to the area. "He said yes, very graciously, on the first call."

Fencik is currently a partner for new business development at Adams Street Partners in Chicago.

"We are hoping that students of all ages will attend to hear how someone from Barrington has succeeded in his professional life," said Geleske. "We are inviting students of all ages to attend this event free of charge."

The first part of the evening at the high school is open to all ages. Afterwards, there will be a more intimate gathering for adults at the Barrington Country Bistro.

"The Bistro will be a smaller event where people can interact with Gary personally," said volunteer Kelly Henry. "The whole night will be a great experience."

The event is open to people from all communities. Tickets for adults are a $25 donation. Students of all ages can attend for free. Tickets for the Bistro reception are $100. Reservations are required.
