District 95 Looks at Giving Money Back to Taxpayers

Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 is set to pass a tax levy increase during its Dec. 19 meeting and officials are discussing "the possibility of giving back some of that money to taxpayers," according to the Chicago Tribune.

School officials say they should see a 2 percent increase in taxes this year — or $75.5 million — and the school district is expected to have $31 million in its general fund, according to the article.

The district has found a way to stabilize its finances since 2005 and 2006 when it had to make cuts to staffing and programs and the district was borrowing money to make it through the school year, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Daily Herald reports the school district could discuss a possible abatement in February and make a decision in April, according to the article.
