Demolition Is Under Way at May Whitney

District 95 has live streaming video of the demolition on its website.

Demolition is under way on the abandoned portion of the May Whitney school building.

The work began Tuesday, one day ahead of schedule. Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 is streaming live video of the demolition on the district website.

The demolition is being performed by American Demolition at an estimated cost not to exceed $259,800.

The budget for the entire project is projected at $1.17 million. Bids for the site restoration project are expected to go before the board July 28.

The expected schedule is as follows:

  • Aug. 9 – Begin backfill and rough grading; and start of building restoration and closure. 
  • Aug. 17 – Expected completion of demolition
  • Aug. 18 – Start of landscaping and site restoration

District officials said the site restoration would include a new playground, concrete work, landscaping and parking lot repair.

The anticipated completion of the site restoration and landscaping portion of the May Whitney project is in mid-September.
