Barrington High School Student Sells Christmas CDs for Newtown

Lydia Gabriel recorded a CD of traditional Christmas songs. All proceeds will go toward Sandy Hook School.

A Barrington High School student is going above and beyond to help the community of Newtown, Conn. heal from the tragic school shooting that happened last week.

Lydia Gabriel, a freshman at BHS just knew she wanted to do something to help when she heard about the 27 people killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14.

“I always loved elementary school and when I heard about the people in Connecticut; I was just so upset and heartbroken,” she said.

Gabriel, a member of the Barrington High School choir, was singing Christmas songs when something clicked.

“I said, maybe I could make a CD of traditional Christmas songs and give a CD to them, and donate money I raise to Connecticut,” she said.

Gabriel recorded the tracks at a Barrington studio and will have them available to purchase later this week. She plans to donate all money raised to the Sandy Hook Support Fund set up at Newtown Savings Bank. The CDs will be available for whatever monetary amount a person would like to donate.

Lydia’s mom Lisa describes her as a loving and giving person who often thinks of others first.

“She goes to the nursing homes to sing for the people that live there…she loves to sing to people and be able to bless them and encourage them,” Lisa Gabriel said.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
