Nancy Coleman, executive director of the Foundation, said the event started last year as a wellness event for the teachers, staff, students and parents.
"We are hoping participation will grow this year, and the event can become profitable," Coleman said.
Funds raised from the event will go to sponsor Foundation projects such as the Teacher Innovation Grants. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $55,000 in grants to teachers.
"We also have supported for the last year, the Smart Schools and Bright Futures Campaign that has raised over $160,000 for technology enhancements within the schools," Coleman said.
The cost for the 5K is $30 and the Fun Run is $15.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race at 9 a.m. All participants registered prior to the race date will receive a t-shirt as part of their early registration package. Race Time will coordinate finish line management and timing services.
