Residents’ Ideas Welcome at Open Space Master Plan Meeting

On Tuesday, the parks department and design firm will share results of community surveys and focus groups.

Since January of this year, the Parks and Recreation Department and Norris Design, the firm hired to assist in developing the Open Space and Recreation Master Plan, have been gathering and analyzing information to develop a plan for parks and recreation areas in the village.

“We’ve had very good input from the focus groups which included around 30 residents; we asked what they saw were our strengths and what they saw as challenges,” said Mike Perkins, parks and recreation director.

“We also asked what opportunities they would like us to offer, and the top priorities in next three to five years,” Perkins added.

Other steps taken were to conduct random phone surveys that asked residents about their level of participation at the 32 parks in Lake Zurich, what amenities could be improved and to rate the overall physical condition of buildings.

Perkins said more than 300 residents participated in the surveys.

On Tuesday evening, residents are invited to attend the meeting that will provide an update on the information gathered through focus groups and community surveys, in addition to benchmark studies, mapping and other details that will explain where the plan is currently.

“There will be a time for questions from residents and we will provide answers; this meeting is meant for residents to give their input and we definitely want them to be very involved in the final plan,” said Perkins.

The plan is expected to be completed by June of this year and then brought before the board of trustees for approval.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, April 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the community room at .
