Mayor of Lake Zurich Proclaims Feb. 28 as Rare Disease Day

Mayor Suzanne Branding will recognize Spencer Loomis Student Council who implemented a rare disease awareness program at their school.

 

Suzanne Branding, Mayor of Lake Zurich, proclaims that the Village of Lake Zurich, its residents and its businesses recognize Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 as Rare Disease Day. 

Lake Zurich joins the global celebration being marked by various advocacy events in Washington, D.C. and around the world. 

On Monday, March 4, at the Village Board Meeting, Mayor Suzanne Branding will give recognition to the Spencer Loomis Student Council who contributed and implemented the Two Hearts Rock campaign at their school. 

“Dollar Denim Days” is a week-long, school-based initiative facilitated by Two Hearts Rock™. The campaign raises awareness for rare diseases in the weeks leading up to Rare Disease Day, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. This initiative also unifies the student body under a symbol of hope - the Blue Denim Genes Ribbon™. 

Proceeds this year will support the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation & the Global Genes Project (www.globalgenes.org

Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) is a rare neurological disorder in which attacks of paralysis of a portion of the body, including the face occur. Eleven year old, Kiley Andrasco, of Lake Zurich is one of just 600 people in the world diagnosed with AHC. 

The students will be recognized at 7 p.m. March 4 at Lake Zurich Village Hall, 70 E. Main Street,

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
