Lake Zurich Takes Look at Medical Marijuana Rules

The village of Lake Zurich is starting to discuss how marijuana cultivation and distribution facilities "would fit into the village's zoning code" with officials planning to hold a public hearing sometime in the future to discuss the matter, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Gov. Pat Quinn this past year signed the The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, which will allow marijuana to be given to patients with some serious illnesses. The law will take effect on Jan. 1.

One of the main concerns Lake Zurich officials have is that the new law could lead property value in the community to go down, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Tribune reports permits to open distribution or cultivation facilities would not be issued until April.
