Lake Zurich Residents Encouraged to Get Involved

Trustee Jim Beaudoin attended the grand opening last week of the Lake Zurich Farmers Market, obviously impressed by what he saw.

He was excited to see the turnout and pointed out the farmers market was organized and is run, 100 percent, by volunteers. It’s a good example of residents stepping forward to help, he said.

Beaudoin and his fellow trustees want to see more residents step forward. The village board is encouraging residents to get involved and have made it easier for residents to do just that.

The village’s website now has an Appointment Application available where residents can show their interest in volunteering. The boards, committee or commissions include:

Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
A three-member commission responsible for the hiring process, discipline and termination of sworn fire and police personnel.

Community/Police Advisory Committee
The seven-member committee acts as a liaison between the community and the police department, addressing concerns brought forward by citizens.

A seven-member board which serves as a liaison between residents and
the village board on all matters related to the development and operation of recreation programs, playgrounds, facilities, parks, and to make recommendations to the village board as necessary.

The Plan Commission
The commission is responsible for long-range planning for the village and making recommendations to the village board on development issues and proposals.

Police Pension Board
A five-member that controls and manages the pension fund within the State of Illinois statutes.

Tree Commission
A five-member commission responsible for the maintenance, inventory, and growth of the village’s urban forest.
